Setting a page title and meta description

The two lines of text that show up for a page in Google search results, and how to set them.

  1. Open the page in wp-admin

    Go to Pages, find the page, and open it in the normal WordPress editor (not Elementor) to see the Rank Math SEO panel.

  2. Find the Rank Math box

    Scroll down below the content area to the Rank Math SEO panel, or use the Rank Math icon if it’s docked to the side.

  3. Set the SEO title

    Keep it under roughly 60 characters. Lead with what the page is about, for example “Self Storage | Amax Storage”.

  4. Set the meta description

    A one or two sentence summary, under roughly 155 characters, written to make someone want to click through from Google.

  5. Save the page

    Update or Publish the page as normal. It can take Google some time to pick up the new title and description in search results.

Tip

If you’re not sure what to write, ask us. Getting this wrong doesn’t break the site, but it can affect how many people click through from search.
